Lucknow’s 'Kisan Path': Transforming City Connectivity with the ₹7,000 Crore Green Corridor Project

The ongoing expansion of the Kisan Path (Outer Ring Road) in Lucknow is setting a new benchmark for the city's infrastructure. This 104-kilometer, 8-lane state-of-the-art highway, designed as a National Highway (NH-230), aims to decongest the inner city and provide a seamless bypass for heavy commercial vehicles coming from neighboring districts, allowing them to bypass the city center entirely.

Key Development Updates

• Integration with the Green Corridor: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is actively developing the ₹7,000 crore Green Corridor project. Construction is underway on new link roads near IIM Road to connect the Green Corridor directly to the Kisan Path, significantly improving accessibility for the Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area and its surrounding regions.

• Phases 3 & 4 Progress: The state government has approved a significant budget for phases 3 and 4 of the Green Corridor. This stretch will begin at Pipraghat, pass through Shaheed Path, and connect directly to the Kisan Path. Once completed, this will reduce travel time between Gomti Nagar and the Kisan Path to just a few minutes.

• Service Lane Construction: To enhance traffic safety and reduce congestion, the government has planned the construction of two-lane service roads on both sides of the Kisan Path. Construction is slated to begin in July 2026, which will help prevent accidents caused by vehicles traveling in the wrong direction and provide convenience to local residents.

Benefits of the Project

1. Relief from Traffic Congestion: Heavy commercial vehicles arriving from neighboring districts like Kanpur, Barabanki, and Hardoi can now use the Outer Ring Road instead of entering busy internal routes like Shaheed Path.

2. Time and Fuel Efficiency: The seamless connectivity ensures smoother traffic flow, drastically reducing travel time, fuel consumption, and vehicle emissions.

3. Economic Connectivity: Farmers can transport their produce to mandis (markets) faster, and traders can move goods efficiently between major highways—including the Purvanchal Expressway, Sultanpur Road, and Raebareli Road—boosting overall trade and commerce.
